 The National Sons of Confederate Veterans set up a special SCV web site  SCVHeritageDefense.org just for Heritage issues where you can enter your email address, become a Friend of the SCV and stay informed. We need an email address for every Compatriot and individual so that we can communicate quickly. Ask others to sign up as well so we can get the word out to as many supporters as possible.


Heritage Defense Fund

Since July of 1998 the SCV’s Heritage Defense Fund has disbursed funding on dozens of separate heritage violations in numerous states. Many requests have been received and are presently being evaluated.

The SCV Heritage Defense Fund began because of the egregious action of Maryland officials when they tried to recall our SCV logo license plates. We won that litigation in federal court in 33 days, perhaps a Guiness Book record. The victory was due to all of you lending your support during a real tough time. Our license plates are still on the road and at least six other states either now have or, soon will have a similar program.

The reason for continuing to keep a healthy balance in the SCV Heritage Defense Fund is because we need it if we are going to be able to act in a timely manner and respond to attacks on our heritage. Quite frankly, if we did not have a significant reservoir of funds available to the SCV, we would be unable to proceed with actions against our detractors.

​​​​DONATIONS FOR A NOBLE CAUSE

N. B. Forrest Camp 3 is a benevolent organization that provides its services free of charge.  Consequently, one of the primary Camp functions is the generation of funds to support its historical projects.  One such method is the videoing of guest speaker programs and local historical Civil War events and offering them as quality DVD programming.  These programs can be reviewed on the VIDEO link. The Camp is also supported by member dues and the generous support of citizens who appreciate the historical efforts made by the SCV and N. B. Forrest Camp 3.  All donations are used exclusively for restoration projects in the Chattanooga and North Georgia area; and all donations are tax deductible.

Currently, the most significant need for funds is for the restoration of the Chattanooga Confederate Cemetery.  The cemetery has fallen into disrepair through years of weathering and insufficient funding.  Current estimates for repairs to the entrance arch, walls, cast iron historical markers, band pavilion and Memorial Obelisk Monument (see CEMETERY) total approximately $100,000.

The cemetery restoration is a noble historical project.  It reflects a significant part of Chattanooga's history and culture.  In addition to approximately 2,500 Confederate (both Caucasian and Black) Soldiers, some Union Soldiers and many prominent veterans are interred, therein. Your donations can greatly assist in preserving this historical treasure and heritage.


The programs from our library are available on DVD and can be acquired by making a DONATION to support our historical restoration projects.  Each GUEST SPEAKER program is available for a minimum $18 donation.   Your DVD donation is tax deductible and includes shipping.  To acquire a DVD program be sure to give us your return address and the program(s) desired.
